Course Description
This qualification reflects the role of building professionals who apply knowledge of structural principles, risk and financial management, estimating, preparing and administering building and construction contracts, selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality and managing construction work in building projects including residential and commercial with the following limitations:
- Residential construction is limited to National Construction Code Class 1 and 10 buildings to a maximum of 3 storeys.
- Commercial construction is limited to National Construction Code Class 2 to 9 buildings, Type C and B construction.

To achieve this qualification, students must demonstrate competency in 27 units of competency:
- 24 core units, plus
- 23 elective units
This will be delivered over 56 weeks including holiday breaks. Students are required to attend a minimum of 20 scheduled course contact hours per week.
Entry Requirements
Age requirements
Students must be above 18 years of age while filling up the application form.
Pre-training Review
The Pre-Training Review (PTR) will be conducted prior to the enrolment into your course of studies to ensure that the training and assessment provided by Hawk Institute is able to meet the student’s individual needs. Students will be required to fill up the PTR form and submit it with the application form.
Hawk Institute will review the student’s current competencies, student needs, English level, support requirements and oral communication skills, in order to enrol them in the most appropriate course to achieve their intended outcomes.
Academic requirements -
To enter this course, delivered at Hawk Institute, applicants should have successfully completed year 12 or senior secondary studies in the applicant’s home country equivalent to Australian senior secondary school examination.
OR
Mature age students will also be considered without the minimum education requirements considering they have relevant work experience within the chosen area of study and a demonstrated capacity to meet the course requirements. A minimum of 2 years’ experience would normally be expected; however, each case will be reviewed individually with relevant work experience evidence in the form of an employment reference letter on company letterhead, work samples and curriculum vitae submitted will be considered. Such learners will be accessed for possible RPL opportunities, and their course duration and volume of learning will be adjusted accordingly if any RPL is granted.
English Language Requirements for International students:
International students applying for this course either off-shore or on-shore will require either a minimum IELTS test score of 6.0 or equivalent with a minimum of 5 in each of the four test components for direct entry into a VET course;
or, IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 10 weeks) to be taken before the course;
or, IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 20 weeks) to be taken before the course;
(Note: Results older than two years are not acceptable)
or, Oxford Placement test with score 61 or higher.
Score Guide: Average test score of 61 or higher in Oxford placement test is equivalent to IELTS 6.0.

Language, Literacy and Digital Numeracy test (LLND):
Students undertaking this qualification may have to do calculations, meter readings, read vehicle manufactory instructions, and workshop manuals, therefore, students undertaking this course at Hawk Institute must possess sound Digital Numeracy skills. To determine this, all students wanting to study at Hawk Institute are required to undertake LLND test prior to the enrolment of the course. Based on the test outcome, students may be identified as requiring internal support services and/or external support services.
LLND test will be conducted on campus by using an ACSF mapped online LLN assessment tool - LLN Robot - under the supervision of a qualified LLN assessor.
Students will be required to undertake a language, literacy, and Digital numeracy test (LLND) test and achieve the expected performance level of ACSF level 4 for CPC50220 – Diploma of Building and Construction (Building).

Computer literacy requirements -
All students enrolling into this course must have basic computer skills. Students will be required to fill in the questions related to computer and internet skills in the Pre-Training Review form attached along with the application form.
Students who do not possess basic computing skills will be provided with basic computer use support. Students may contact Hawk Institute for any further information or assistance at 1300 159 461.
Materials and Equipment Required
Institute will provide access to computers with required resources including access to internet during classroom hours, however, to work on the assignments and tasks for self-study, all learners are expected to have access to a laptop or computer with the Windows 7 operating system or higher.
Students must have an active email address for communication and be contactable by phone (mobile or landline) and by mail (postal address). All learners are expected to have access to MS office application such as Microsoft Word, an email platform.
Learners will be required to have a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kit for Painting and Decorating. This includes safety shoes (Steel toe), Protectives glasses, a safety vest (Neon/ Glowing), Protective gloves, earmuffs and a working uniform mask and a hard hat. This PPE kit will be required to enter the workshop and to be able to undertake training effectively. Learners can avail the PPE kit from the institute for $400 or from suppliers outside. However, if learners wish to buy PPE kit from outside, learners must ensure that the PPE kit meets WHS requirements.

Physical Abilities Requirements -
Physical Abilities requirements Learners are expected to have physical abilities and manual handling required to perform tasks involved while undergoing training effectively. As part of this qualification, students are expected to do manual handling as it is a physically demanding occupation.

Assessment Methods
All assessments of units of competency will be conducted according to the assessment guidelines and competency standards of the official Training Package for this qualification. Students will be required to perform in a range of areas including practical demonstrations in practical training workshop, projects, and knowledge tests, Case Study/Reports, Project, Role Plays.

After successfully achieving this qualification, candidates may CPC60220 - Advanced Diploma of Building and Construction (Management) at other institutes as Hawk Institute doesn’t offer this qualification.
